YANCEY COUNTY, NC – Today professor, entrepreneur, and world-renowned cancer researcher Paul Maddox announced his candidacy for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.

“There’s a cancer running through Washington, D.C., and I’m running to cure it,” said Maddox. “I’m not a politician, I’m a scientist. As a native son of Western North Carolina, I know working families like mine deserve a Representative who cares for all our communities – from Marion to Murphy.”

Widely regarded as a visionary in the biotechnology field, Maddox has published over 100 scientific articles and developed six research-enabling patents as a highly-respected cancer researcher. An entrepreneur, he has founded two small businesses focused on advancing our fight against cancer.

Maddox continued, “I’ve dedicated my life to curing cancer, and it’s clear that right now there’s no place sicker than Washington, DC. We need leaders who are more focused on doing the right thing for Western North Carolina than following orders from party leaders in Washington. That’s what I’ve spent my life doing, and that’s just what I’ll do as our next Member of Congress.”

Maddox has taught at UNC for 12 years ensuring future generations can continue deploying scientific advances to save lives and improve the health of our most vulnerable communities.

Paul and his wife Amy, a professor of biology and noted cancer researcher, are the proud parents of two daughters in public schools.
